Buckhannon & Northern Branch - P&LE RR

From West Virginia Railroads - Model Railroading

The Buckhannon & Northern Branch of the Pittsburg & Lake Erie Railroad (P&LE) extended along the west bank of the Monongahela River (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Monongahela_River) from Fairmont, WV (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Fairmont%2C_West_Virginia) to the West Virginia-Pennsylvania state line where it connected with another P&LE branch line to Brownsville, McKeesport and Pittsburgh. That 31-mile section of the railroad, from Riversville, WV (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Rivesville%2C_West_Virginia) to the northern line of Monongalia County, was built during 1911-1912, opening up a great coal field on the west side of the river in Marion and Monongalia counties.
