The Fairmont & Mannington Railroad (F&M) was a trolley line was controlled by the Monongahela Valley Traction Company. The F&M rail line extended northwestward across the divide from Fairmont, WV (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Fairmont%2C_West_Virginia) to Buffalo Creek at Barrackville, WV (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Barrackville%2C_West_Virginia); thence westward along the south bank of the latter stream to Mannington, WV (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Mannington%2C_West_Virginia), a total distance of 17 miles. The road was completed during 1910. The F&M had a large amount of passenger traffic due to the development of the coal mining industry in the area the railroad served.
