Monongahela River Branch - B&O RR
From West Virginia Railroads - Model Railroading
The Monongahela River Branch of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O) extended from Fairmont, WV (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Fairmont%2C_West_Virginia) along the Monongahela (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Monongahela_River) and West Fork rivers to Clarksburg, WV (http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Clarksburg%2C_West_Virginia), a distance of 32.1 miles. The road was built in 1890 by Johnson N. Camden, as the Monongahela River Railroad Company, which was sold in 1900 to the B&O. The B&O's Monongahela River Branch had a very heavy freight traffic from several coal mines located along both banks of the Monongahela River.
