Deepwater Railway coal cars at the Loup Creek Colliery Co.'s tipple at Page, WV, ca. 1905

An article published in the Dec. 9, 1905 edition of The Engineering and Mining Journal described the Loup Creek Colliery Company's mining operations in Page, West Virginia. The need for a rail line to haul coal and timber from the company's land holdings in the area lead to the creation of the Deepwater Railway which was joined with the Tidewater Railway to create the Virginian Railway in 1907.
